Summer is a time for fun and family. It’s time for a change of pace and a change of scenery. It’s also a time for children to forget what they learned the previous school year. This loss of learning is sometimes called the “summer slide”. If you’d like to read more about it, check out the links at the bottom of this page.
Reading is a very important way to combat the "summer slide". Beyond reading, we also encourage you to schedule time for family fun like playing games together. Strategy games, word games, and number games are all great choices. Games provide opportunities for children to practice their manners as well as learn skills! Outdoor activities are particularly appropriate for this summer, to build up or maintain the immune system with plenty of exercise, sunlight, and fresh air.
To ensure that your child maintains his or her academic success for the next school year, we provide a Summer Reading and Skills Reinforcement Program for students (PK-10th grade). We encourage you to make this fun for your child, but to also make it intentional. Come up with a plan so there is no need to panic about the reading requirements as summer comes to an end. You are welcome to read with your child, discuss the book as they go along, and of course, read more than the minimum!

Please note that the assignments will be part of the first reading grade of the new school year, so don't neglect to make this part of your summer.
Children who will be entering grades K to 3 are also asked to complete a "Summer Bridge" workbook. Links for each level are listed to the right (or at the bottom on a mobile device).
